Abstract EN:

The theme of the deification ofman takes a central place in the work of the great byzantine theologian maximus the confessor (580-662) and is a key to understanding the nature and relationships of his theology, his anthropology and his spirituality. The aim of this study is to set out the maximian doctrine of deification in its entirery, considering the acquisitions and the inadequacies of previous researches. It successively analyses : deification as a divine porject (chapter 1), its anthropological foundations (chapter 2), its failure caused by ancestral sin (chapter 3), its christological restoration and foundations (chapter 4-6), its pneumatalogical foundations (chapter 7), its ecclesiological and sacramental foundations (chapter 8), its ascetical and theoretical foundations (chapter 9), its purely "theological" foundations (chapter 10), its process and its nature (chapter 11), its first fruits and its future fulfilment (chapter 12).
