Abstract EN:

"to expand the well commenced evangelisation. . . , to deepen the acquired evangelisation in order to bring about a greater symbiosis between belief, african spirit and customs. . . , to face new problems posed to cameroon by the changes of modern urban life and the access of so many young people to studies". Such are the objectives which the pope john paul ii at the time of his visit to cameroon from the 10th to the 14th of august 1985, wanted to fix to the new stage of evangelisation and to the new missionary progress of which the celebration of the centenary of the catholic church in cameroon (from the 8th of december 1990 to the 8th of december 1991) would only be the starting point. The present study interrogates the very first beginnings of catholicism in cameroon led by the crosier of german pallitine missionaries, from 1890 to 1916. It leans on this original and founding past of our christian catholic history like on a source of inspiration which makes possible again, confronted with the challenges and new problems posed to the catholic chruch and to the civil society of cameroon, the creativity of the first beginnings.

Abstract FR:

"etendre l'evangelisation si bien commencee. . .
