Cette thèse a pour objet de faire connaitre l'action initiatique de Max Theon, premier maitre en occultisme de "la mère" (de l'ashram de Pondichéry) et qui est peu connu bien qu'il ait influence sri Aurobindo. Elle traite d'abord de la H. B. Of L. , dont Max Theon fut le grand maitre et qui, selon René Guénon, aurait lancé le mouvement spirite et serait antérieure à la société théosophique (elle provoqua l'échec rapide de la H. B. Of L. En Grande-Bretagne). Les enseignements pratiques de cette société secrète partaient des idées de P. B. Randolph et de la magie sexuelle. A travers eux, les grandes figures de l'occultisme français s'initièrent à la magie pratique. La thèse décrit ensuite le mouvement cosmique qui a débuté à la fin du XIXe siècle en France où il a surtout exercé une influence souterraine. Enfin, la thèse expose les idées de la philosophie cosmique (publiées anonymement par les Theon) qui constitue un monument initiatique au moins par son volume, mais est d'accès difficile. Le mouvement cosmique enseigne que l'homme a été privé de l'immortalité physique, mais vaincra bientôt la mort et restituera l'unité du cosmos.

Abstract FR:

This thesis has for aim to make known the initiatic action of Max Theon who was the first master in occultism of "the mother" (of Pondicherry ashram) and is not well-known though he has influenced sri Aurobindo. It deals firstly with the H. B. Of L. , of which Max Theon was the grand master and which, according to René Guénon, would have launched modern spiritualism and be prior to the theosophical society (it provoked the failure of the H. B. Of L. In Great-Britain). The practical teaching of this secret society steamed from P. B. Randolph and from sexual magic. Through them, the great figures of French occultism learned practical magic. The thesis described then the "mouvement cosmique" that has begun in the end of the 19th century in France where it has mainly exercised a underground influence. Finally, the thesis exposes the ideas of the "philosophie cosmique" (published anonymously by the Theons) that constitutes an initiatic monument at least through its volume, but is of difficult access. The "mouvement cosmique" teaches that man has been bereft from physical immortality but will soon vanquish death and restore the unity of the cosmos.
