In this thesis Mazdean philosophy is approached through Yima’s character. Sociological aspects will be considered in order to define the type of marriage the character represents; ritualistic questions will also be raised since Yima is one of the main sacrificers, and finally, a linguistic study will be conducted so as to achieve a thorough analysis of the different texts. The most literary part of the thesis is the study of the second chapter of Vidēvdād, and will argue that the structure of the text is more coherent than commonly thought and is therefore worth examining. The foundation of this part is based on a new translation of this chapter. Instead of seeing the different texts as isolated fragments, we present them here as pieces of the same puzzle. Such a perspective allows us to go beyond a simple historical and linguistic interpretation in order to release meanings and motives which truly engage with the history of religions itself.

La thèse aborde la mythologie mazdéenne à travers le personnage de Yima. Tour à tour, nous envisageons des questions sociologiques, pour définir le type de mariage auquel le personnage est lié, rituelles, car il est un des principaux sacrificateurs, mais aussi linguistiques, pour aborder les textes de la manière la plus précise possible. La partie la plus littéraire, c'est-à-dire l’étude du deuxième chapitre du Vidēvdād, se confronte à la structure du texte, pour en montrer la cohérence, et ainsi la pertinence d’une analyse. Nous en proposons une nouvelle traduction. Par une approche des textes visant à les considérer comme intègres, nous avons pu en dégager tout le sens, induit par sa structure comme par ses motifs, et ainsi renouer avec les études d’histoires des religions, en dépassant les cadres de l’histoire ou de la linguistique.
