Although the Christology of Tommaso Campanella forms a bridge in his thinking between philosophy and dogmatism, there exists no systematic study, which seeks to give an account of that Christology itself. It is precisely this that I am seeking to carry out in this thesis. In other words, I seek to delineate the response made by Campanella to the question of Matthew 16:13, “Who do you say that I am?” Following Campanella himself, my thesis will seek to answer that question in three stages. First, I will look at Campanella’s description of the Incarnation, the Word become flesh. The incarnation manifests the goodness, the justice, the wisdom, and the power of God. Secondly, I will deal with Campenella’s understanding of the life of Christ. Finally, I treat Campenella’s conception of the Christ in the resurrection, which concerns, as he sees it, not merely his divine nature but the fullness of his personhood. Throughout this account, I attempt to point out the tensions within the theological debates of his epoch, as well as the references to the tradition – most notably St. Thomas.

Le Christ, qui fait un avec la Première Raison puisque le Christ historique s’identifie au Savoir éternel, constitue dans la pensée théologique de Tommaso Campanella le trait d'union entre la philosophie et la dogmatique. Or il n’existe pas d'études systématiques sur le Christ. Notre recherche se propose de combler cette carence, en déterminant les implications relatives aux caractéristiques humaines du Fils de l'Homme telles que Campanella les décrit. . La recherche vise à observer précisément la réponse fournie par Campanella à la question du Christ «Vos vero quem me dicitis esse?» (Matth. 16, 13). Cette réponse sera enrichie par l'étude des trois grandes étapes de sa présentation du Christ. Elles coïncident avec les trois parties sur lesquelles la recherche s'articule: I) L'incarnation ; II) La vie du Christ ; III) La glorification du Christ.
