Abstract EN:

Trade liberalization and more particularly its impact on poor households and farmers in developing countries is still a controversial topic. Each World Trade Organization negotiation since Seattle ministerial conference in 1999 (referred to as the Battle of Seattle) has taken place under severe social protest activity. Civil society's main concern has to do with how trade liberalization adversely affects developing countries and more precisely farmers. Consequently, policy makers around the world started focusing on the impact of public policies, namely trade liberalization, on development issues, with the start of Doha round in 2001.
