For the mainstream, hyperinflation appears as a particular form of inflation. The differences between the two process are only of quantitative nature. Whereas, hyperinflation must be considered in his qualitative nature which depend on economic and social structures. There are two implications : first, hyperinflation can take many forms and the process isn't necessarily explosive. Second, the hyperinflation path depend on structural transfroamtions. In this two way, central and oriental european economies presents important specificities.

Le courant theorique dominant considere generalement l'hyperinflation comme une forme particuliere d'inflation, et seule la dimension quantitative est retenue. Or, l'hyperinflation doit avant tout etre definie par ses aspects qualitatifs. La nature de l'hyperinflation est fonction des structures economiques et sociales. Il y a deux consequences : tout d'abord, l'hyperinflation peut prendre differentes formes et le processus n'est pas necessairement explosif. Ensuite, la trajectoire hyperinflationniste est fonction des transformations structurelles. Par rapport a ces deux elements, les economies d'europe centrale et orientale presentent d'importantes specificites.
