Religion and politics, in hume's empirical philosophy, are two fondamental elements explaining, on one hand the profound nature of man, and interpreting on other hand the essential character of this empiricism. According to hume's critic religion express the naivety and the weakness of human spirit while politics shows his ruse and his dissatisfaction as a being whose needs are innumerable. When we try to compare the two marks, we must get a new situation leading to morals, infortunately there is nothing like this. If politics looks for the ways that will assure peace and security for the whole society, religion revealed to man the limits of his capacities and signify him endly that he is a finished being. Death is certain and worse is inevitable with the result that belief in god is a psychological problem.

La religion et la politique, dans la philosophie empiriste de hume, sont deux element fondamentaux expliquant d'une part la nature profonde de l'homme, et traduisant d'autre part le caractere essentiel de cet empirisme. La religion, selon la critique jumienne, exprime la naivete et la faiblesse de l'esprit humain tandis que la politique expose sa ruse et son insatisfaction en tant que l'etre dont les besoins sont en nombre infini. Le rapprochement de ces deux reperes pourrait creer une situation nouvelle debouchant sur une morale, ce qui n'est malheureusement pas le cas. Si la politique a multiplie les moyens et les methodes afin d'assurer a la societe une securite et une paix relatives, la religion a plutot revele a l'homme les limites de ses capacites pour enfin lui signifier qu'il n'est qu'un etre fini. La mort est ertaine et le mal est inevitable si bien que la croyance en dieu revet son caractere psychologique.
