: This thesis seeks to integrate both musical and cultural analysis, and also to embrace the process of change, which is a characteristic of music as a life phenomenon. The objectives of this study are the understanding of the cultural consequences resulting from five centuries of contact and migration between the Canary Islands and Venezuela, through the study and comparison of the songs called malagueñas. The two preliminary chapters embrace the historical and linguistic aspects in relation to the contact between the two regions. The central chapters include the analysis of each the Canarian and Venezuelan malagueñas, their place into the musical repertory of each region, instrumentation, texts, dance and of course, music itself. The last chapters include the comparisons between the two malagueñas, and confirm in a general way that both versions share their structural, formal, rhythmic and harmonic characteristics, as well as stylistic resemblances. Nevertheless, several differences have been found, which are useful to define both musical styles of the Canary Islands and Venezuela. The structural and stylistic coincidences confirm the important influence of the Canary Islands into the folk music from Venezuela, particularly into the malagueñas. However it is possible that some of the characteristics of this music and even its existence in Venezuela can also be a consequence of migrations from southern Spain. This possibility is to be explored.

Cette thèse cherche à intégrer aussi bien les analyses musicales que les aspects culturels entourant le phénomène étudié, et à embrasser les processus de changement propres à la musique en tant que phénomène vivant. Son objectif est de mieux comprendre les conséquences culturelles qui résultent de cinq siècles de contacts et migrations entre les Iles Canaries et le Venezuela, à travers l'étude et la comparaison des chansons nommées malagueñas. Deux chapitres préliminaires embrassent les aspects historiques et linguistiques de ces rapports. Les chapitres centraux comprennent l'étude des malagueñas de chaque région du point de vue de leur intégration dans le répertoire musical respectif, les instruments qui les accompagnent, les textes utilisés, la danse et bien évidemment la musique. Les chapitres conclusifs abordent les comparaisons, et confirment que les malagueñas canariennes et vénézuéliennes partagent leurs caractéristiques structurelles, formelles, rythmiques et harmoniques, ainsi que certaines ressemblances stylistiques. Cependant, plusieurs différences ont été mises en évidence : leur confrontation a servi à définir les styles musicaux des Canaries et de l'est vénézuélien. Même si d'autres influences importantes comme celle de l'Andalousie restent encore à explorer, les coi͏̈ncidences structurelles et les ressemblances stylistiques constatées confirment l'importance de l'influence des Canaries dans le folklore musical vénézuélien et en particulier sur les malagueñas.
