The wordly scenes in the remembrance of things passed receive a specific treatment in this thesis. First of all, our purpose has been to define the narrator's wordly itinerary in comparison with that of the other characters. At the same time, it deals with the history of a society in deep evolution. Since they offer the opportunity of an apprenticeship, the wordly scenes share some of their features with the world of display. From social gathering to social gathering, the same patterns undergo variations and the men about town abide by the rules and behave on if they were doing any with themselves. On the other hand, because of their being linked with the understanding of the signs, those scenes propound an indirect means of access to truth. The paradox they represent (being the place where time is lost, where time is regained) resolves. Eventually, some fore-texts display many aspects of their writing, contributing to their meaning, modalities of the narrative, digressions, wich prompt one to draw a parallel between those master pieces of "bracketing style". Finally, these wordly scenes contribute to the homogeneousness of the remembrance of things passed.

Les scènes mondaines dans "A la recherche du temps perdu" bénéficient dans cette thèse d'une analyse spécifique. En premier lieu sera défini l'itinéraire mondain du narrateur par rapport à ceux d'autres personnages. De même est envisagée l'histoire d'une société en pleine évolution. Occasion d'un apprentissage, les scènes mondaines offrent des points communs avec le spectacle : de réunions en réunions les mêmes schémas subissent des variations et les mondains, obéissant à des lois, semblent se détruire. D'autre part, liées à la compréhension des signes, ces scènes proposent un mode d'accès à la vérité par les voies indirectes. Le paradoxe qu'elles représentent - temps perdu ou le temps se retrouve - s'éclaire. Enfin quelques avant-textes mettent en lumière bien des aspects de leur écriture, contribuant à leur sens : modalités du récit, dissimulation, bouleversements narratifs, digressions qui incitent à rapprocher ces grands morceaux du "style a parenthèse". En définitive, les scènes mondaines contribuent à part entière à l'homogénéité de la recherche.
