The mediterranean camus is not only interested in the noises of the daily life of the land of his birth or the sounds of the elements, but also in silence so intense in the evening : then the song of the world becomes interiorized, a song in which all the senses participate - probably rendered keener because of poverty, disease or the strangeness of the place. Already in noces, the exemplary landscape of tipasa brings out the importance of space and lofty places from which the world, always pervaded with light, can be embraced like a painting, before the wind or some other element turns it into a stage in front of which man is not likely to remain a mere spectator. His involvement implies a process of absolute receptivity to the rhythm of the world through the curves it is made of, on such occasions as dancing, bathing into the sea, discovering the desert, till he achieves a union of cosmic intensity with the world. The work or the writer enables him to recreate such happy fullness; it is enhanced by the various characters according to their inner depths, and their experiences of life, together with camus', throw light on to the lyrical composition of a work so narrowly connected with the world

Plus encore qu'aux bruits, expression de la vie quotidienne de son pays d'origine ou manifestation des elements, le mediterraneen camus s'interesse au silence, si riche au crepuscule : alors le chant du monde devient un chant interieur auquel participent tous les sens, exacerbes peut-etre par la pauvrete, la maladie ou le depaysement. Le paysage exemplaire de tipasa fait ressortir des noces l'importance de l'espace et des lieux eleves d'ou le monde, toujours domine par la lumiere, se laisse apprehender comme un tableau avant de se transformer, sous l'action du vent ou de quelque autre element, en un theatre dont l'homme peut ne pas rester spectateur. Son integration passe par une totale receptivite au rythme du monde, percu dans les lignes courbes qui le composent comme a l'occasion de la danse, du bain de mer, de la decouverte du desert, pour des "noces" qui peuvent atteindre une intensite cosmique. Le travail de l'ecriture permet de recreer cette plenitude de bonheur; les differents personnages sont la pour la prolonger et l'approfondir en fonction de leur richesse interieure, et leur experience, renforcant celle de camus, eclaire la composition lyrique d'une oeuvre en etroite liaison avec le monde
