L'horizon fabuleux : la poesie moderne et la structure d'horizon

This thesis comprises : - as an introduction, a phenomenological description of the horizon in landscapes; - an historical inquiry into the shifts of denotative and connotative meanings of the word'horizon' in french language and literature, from the seventeenth to the nineteenth century : how it gradually opens to the idea of the infinite and to metaphorical uses in relation, first to the assertion, then to the reversal, of romantic values; - theoretical considerations on the contribution of twentieth century poets and philosophers to the enlargement of the notion of horizon : the husserlian concept of "horizon-structure" (which plays a crucial part in the phenomenological approach to perception, time and intersubjectivity) is compared with the heideggerian problematic of the veiling-unveiling of being, with the freudian conception of the unconscious and other aspects of psychoanalytic doctrine; it is then applied to the analysis of the structures of the contemporary poetic experience and language; - a series of critical monographs, uniting thematic, psychoanalytic and stylistic methods, and defining the specific values of the horizon theme in several great poetic works in a particularly close contact with the world of the senses : that of hugo, rimbaud, claudel, reverdy, supervielle, laude, bonnefoy and du bouchet; - a conclusion about the topicality of the theme and the notion in the post-structuralist period.

Cette etude comporte : - en introduction, une description phenomenologique de l'horizon du paysage; - une enquete historique sur l'evolution des significations denotatives et connota- tives du mot horizon dans la langue et la litterature francaises, du dix-septieme au dix-neuvieme siecle : ouverture progressive a l'idee d'infini, et a des acceptions metaphoriques liees a l'affirmation, puis a l'inversion, des valeurs romantiques; - une reflexion theorique sur la contribution des poetes et des philosophes du vingtieme siecle a l'elargissement de la notion d'horizon : le concept husserlien de "structure d'horizon" (qui joue un role decisif dans l'approche phenomenologique de la perception, de la temporalite, et de l'intersubjectivite) est confronte a la problematique heideggerienne du voilement-devoilement de l'etre, a la conception freudienne de l'inconscient et a quelques autres elements de doctrine psychanalytique; puis il est applique a l'analyse des structures de l'experience et du langage poetiques contemporains; - une serie de monographies critiques, associant les methodes de la thematique, de la psychanalyse et de la stylistique, et definissant les valeurs specifiques du theme de l'horizon dans quelques grandes oeuvres poetiques, particulierement attentives au monde sensible : celles de hugo, de rimbaud, de claudel, de reverdy, de supervielle, de laude, de bonnefoy et de du bouchet ; - une conclusion sur l'actualite du theme et de la notion dans la periode post-structuraliste.
