The analysis of the variables, the description of the tools of evaluation and the questioning of their validity enable us to identify roughly two theoretical currents underlying the evaluation items in frenc as a foreingn language: the structuralist and the pragmatic - situational currents. The exploration of linguistic and discursive indices is undertaken in three types of competence tests: - in oral and written comprehension - in grammar - in oral and written expression.

L'analyse des variables testees, la description des outils d'evaluation ainsi que l'interrogation sur leur finalite permettent d'identifier glmobalement deux courants theoriques sous-jacents aux items d'evaluation en francais langue etrangere: le courant structuraliste et le courant pragmatico-situationnel. L'exploration des indices linguistiques et discursifs se fait dans trois types de tests visant les competences: - en comprehension orale et ecrite. - en grammaire, - en expression orale et ecrite.
