Abstract EN:

Every poet has his own experiences in time, every reader his own experiences of time. The author of this dissertation wishes to carry out an imaginary experiment of time through an hermeneutic reading of stendhal's fiction. It is no comparative and quantitative analysis, as in narratology, but a thematic approach to a particular principle of the subject, that is to say the novelist's "style". The point is the relation of narration to the experience of time, expressed through narrated time. In stendhal the theme of time includes a triple motif : "the forced walk", "the turning-point" and "moral life", all three of which make up the thematic frame. The first part supplies the theoretical foundations of this essay. The second part examines a textual perspective that allows the reader to "walk" through the story. The third part, on the other hand, is a study of the paradigmatic or synchronic state, not of the process. Finally, the conclusion deals with temporality as it is experienced through the reading of stendhal's novels.

Autant de poetes, autant de vecus temporels, et autant de lecteurs, autant d'experiences du temps. L'auteur de cette these envisage de faire une experience fictive du temps par la biais de la lecture hermeneutique de l'oeuvre romanesque de stendhal. Ce n'est pas une analyse comparative et quantitative comme dans la narratologie, mais une approche thematique d'un principe particulier du sujet, c'esta-dire du "style" du romancier. Il s'agit du rapport de la narration autemps de la vie a travers le temps raconte. Chez stendhal le theme du temps comporte la triple motivation: "la promenade forcee", "le tournant" et "la vie morale", dont l'ensemble constitue le cadre thematique. La premiere partie fournit les assises theoriques de cet essai. La deuxieme partie fournit les assises textuelle qui permet au lecteur de "se promener" le long de l'histoire. La troisieme partie est en revanche une etude de l'etat paradigmatique ou synchronique, et non pas du processus. Enfin, la conclusion est reservee a l'experience de la temporalite a travers le lecture des romans stendhaliens.
