This thesis puts Jean-Christophe - a work written by romain rolland at the dawn of the twentieth century in a romantic perspective. After setting out the main characteristics of french romanticism, it goes on to demonstrate that there is a rediscovery of basic elements of this literary movement in Jean-Christophe, and that novel also draws on the fountain-head of german romanticism the second chapter analyses the life of the musician Kraft and underlines his difficulty in coming to terms with it. In point of fact, in Jean-Christophe's spirit, in the intensity of his feelings and through his creative lyricism we can recognize the romantic hero. In studying the environment in which he develops it is possible to distinguish one major characteristic : the romanticism of the setting is the result of the priority given to emotion and sensitivity. Cette thèse situe Jean-Christophe - oeuvre écrite par Romain Rolland à l'aube du vingtième siècle - dans une perspective romantique. Après avoir précisé les grandes caractéristiques du romantisme français, elle s'attache à montrer que Jean-Christophe retrouve les éléments fondamentaux de ce mouvement littéraire et qu'il puise également à la source du romantisme allemand. Le deuxième chapitre analyse l'existence du musicien Krafft, souligne sa difficulte d'être. De fait, sous les traits de Jean-Christophe, dans l'intensité de ses sentiments, à travers son lyrisme créateur, apparaît le héros romantique. L'étude du cadre dans lequel il évolue permet de dégager une grande caracteristique : le romantisme du décor résulte de la primauté de l'émotion et de la sensibilité. L'oeuvre de Rolland porte une mission : au-delà des faiblesses humaines, elle proclame l'existence d'un univers rayonnant de Dieu, d'un art fait pour la vérité et d'une société se devant d'être à la hauteur d'une valeur trop délaissée : la fraternité.
