The grammatical and syntaxic study of six hundred and fifty eight written productions of pupils belonging to the six-seven age group, collected lengthwise over a period of four school terms, can bring to light a number of features in the first written productions concerning the expression range during the observation period. Furthermore, the study partly reveals how the corpus keeps behindhand with the performance of educated adults and even well bellow the standards of basic french. One is working here on the assumption that the ultimate chances to pass the general certificate of education are un direct ratio with the recurrent use of certain grammatical and syntaxic features during the observation period. With this regard, a differential analysis of the corpus will enable us to divide the considered language features into three categories : statistically undifferentiating features, these are the most numerous; statistically differentiating features unconnected with school results; statistically differentiating features connected with success in the general certificate of education. The last division is chiefly concerned with propriety at sentence level, with the frequency of sentences with circumstantial subordinate clauses, with syntaxic variety and syntaxic phenomena at inter-sentence of textual level. The school system should be able to dedicate itself to the task of getting a vast majority of learners to master that cluster of differentiating writing skills.

L'etude grammaticale et syntaxique de six-cent-cinquante-huit textes d'eleves de six-sept ans, preleves longitudinalement pendant quatre trimestres permet de reveler ou de confirmer certains caracteres des premieres productions ecrites en c qui concerne l'evolution et la structure du materiel langagier au corus de la periode d'observation. Il apparait aussi partiellement en quoi le corpus etudie est tres eloigne de la performance d'adultes cultives et meme des caracteres du francais fondamental. L'hypothese centrale de ce travail est qu'il existe une relation entre l'utilisation de certains traits grammaticaux et syntaxiques durant la periode d'observation et l'obtention ou la non-obtention du baccalaureat. A cet egard, une analyse differentielle du corpus permet de repartir les traits langagiers en trois types: - des traits statistiquement differenciateurs mais sans relation avec le destin scolaire; il s'agit de variations individuelles non retenues par l'institution; -des traits statistiquement differenciateurs en relation avec l7obtention du diplome considere. Ce dernier type se rapporte principalement a la correction phrastique, a la frequence de phrases a subordonnee circonstancielle, a la variete syntaxique et aux phenomenes de syntaxe inter-phrastique ou textuelle. En prenant certaines precautions, l'ecole doit pouvoir developper l'acquisition par le plus grand nombre de ce faisceau d'habiletes differenciatrices en matiere d'ecriture.
