A label given to the work of art, the title of a painting is governed by the rules of a language sub-code. Yet, this semiotic system is articulated to a picture system, both systems functioning within the consumer society. They therefore concur to build a discourse strategy aiming at establishing the social legitimacy of the artist and his her "superdifference".

Etiquette accompagnant l'œuvre d'art, le titre de tableau relève, par ses caractéristiques linguistiques, d'un sous-code de la langue. Or l'articulation de ce système sémiotique à un système d'images et leur fonctionnement dans le cadre de la société de consommation participent d'une stratégie discursive visant à établir la légitimité sociale de l'artiste et sa "surdifférence".
