After his death, octave mirbeau (1848-1917) has often been considered e as a frantic or incoherent man. In fact, during his whole life, he evinced a surprising coherence: in his individuality (he is a struggler, a rebel, an idealist, a supersensitive man ), as well as in his political and , aesthetical struggles, and in his literary works. After beding a "proletarian of letters" during some twelve years, he began his own "redemption" by devoting himself to justice and beauty. In his chronicles, short stories, novels and comedies, he tries to open his readers, eyes. In order to realize such a "glance revolution", he is a pratical exponent of "revelation aesthetics" (complete subjectiveness, derision, "demysti-n" , fication"). Longtemps taxe de frenetisme et d'incoherence, octave mirbeau (1848- 1917) a manifeste au contraire, toute sa vie, une etonnante coherence tant dans sa personnalite ( il est un revolte, un battant, un assoiffte d'absolu double d'un ecorche vif) que dans ses engagements et sa creation litteraire. Apres avoir ete un "proletaire de lettres" pendant une douzaine d'annees, il a entame sa "redemption" en mettant dorenavant sa plume au ine service de la justice et de la beaute. Il a concu ses chroniques, ses contes, ses romans et son theatre comme autant de moyens de dessiller les yeux de ses contemporains. Pouropere cette "revolution du regard", il a mis en oeuvre une esthetique de la revelation (totale subjectivite derision, demystification). Conscient des impasses du roman et du theatre de l'epoque, il a fraye des voies nouvelles, ou se combinent impressionnisme et expressionnisme.
