This study addresses the question of the complex relation between literature and insanity in general, and in particular in the writings of maupassant. The study attempts to show how the expressive nature, and the themes specific to fantastic literature constitute the preferred means of exploring the labyrinth of the inner world of the writer and how they allow him to express in writing the fears and the obsessions haunting him, thus transforming the classic fantastic into the "plantastic". The poetic of insanity as a "folliteraire" esthetic allows to show the organization and the representation, in the very core of the work of maupassant, of the primordial images signifying that the writer, sometimes without knowing, excavate from the depth of his anguish and of his psychic life : an esthetical formulating of delirium and fantasies that makes the cruel narrative, and more specifically the fantastic tale the favored place, and the space where the maupassantian imaginary takes place and develops.
