The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the prose in the short stories of the french writer, André Pieyre de Mandiargues (1909-1991). The intention is to show how the storywriter's imaginary imposes a ceremonial form to the style. Mandiargues's text is effectively an entire celebration : the specificity of the style appears in its liturgical aspects and through the presence of a sacrifice in the realization of the tale. The cult which is celebrated has its foundation in a gnostic creed and that kind of mediation is sacrificial : through the sacrifice , the real is derealized and transmuted. Mandiargues's style, which is revelation, creates a world totally born out of its gaze and through an appeal to senses and an initiatic step, which is a sacralization of the universe in a cosmic communion and a possible fusion, he will reach his reader. Mandiargues's imaginary is constantly building precarious shelters where time takes the shape of space and comes to a halt in an indefinite wait.

Cette thèse a pour objet l'analyse de la prose de l'écrivain français André Pieyre de Mandiargues (1909-1991) dans ses contes et récits courts. Elle se propose de montrer comment l'imaginaire du conteur impose à l'écriture une forme de cérémonial. Le texte de Mandiargues est en effet tout entier célébration : la spécificité de l'écriture se révèle dans ses aspects liturgiques et par la présence d'un sacrifice qui est l'accomplissement du récit. Le culte célèbre repose sur certaine croyance gnostique, et la nature de la médiation est d'ordre sacrificiel : grâce au sacrifice s'opèrent une déréalisation et une trasnmutation du réel. Par une écriture qui est révélation, Mandiargues crée ainsi un monde né de son regard ; c'est par un appel aux sens et une démarche initiatique qui est sacralisation de l'univers, dans une communion cosmique et une possible fusion, qu'il touche son lecteur. L'imaginaire de Mandiargues ne cesse de construire des refuges précaires où le temps prend forme d'espace et se suspend dans une attente infinie.
