L'imaginaire huysmansien : intertexte et iconographie bibliques dans l'oeuvre

The relation between Joris-Karl Huysmans' works and the Bible is far from being as obvious as the one between other writers' and the Scriptures. Yet, it is rich and one can see spiritualistic poetics appear through the years. To appraise this evolution, one has first to study Art and iconography, especially the paintings on which Huysmans has written so many pages, and then to turn towards the intercessor writers who led him to the Book, including Liturgy. Finally, one discovers how Huysmans really rewrites the Bible, which brings a brand new image of the novelist to light

La relation entre l'œuvre de Joris-Karl Huysmans et la Bible est loin d'être aussi évidente que celle qu'entretiennent les œuvres d'autres auteurs avec les Écritures. Elle est néanmoins riche et orientée vers une véritable poétique de l'Esprit. Pour l'appréhender, il faut d'abord s'intéresser à l'Art et à l'iconographie, et notamment à la peinture, qui tient une place si importante chez l'auteur, avant de se tourner vers les intercesseurs littéraires qui le conduisent jusqu'au Livre, écrivains, mystiques, et la liturgie elle-même. On finit alors par découvrir de véritables exercices de réécriture biblique, qui éclairent les romans catholiques et l'œuvre entière d'une lumière nouvelle.
