Abstract EN:

Gustave Guillaume (1883-1960) founded Psychomechanics of language. His theory links closely both structural and cognitive linguistics. Up to now, whereas its application in syntax and grammatical semantics is the rule, lexical semantics seem to be forsaken. Our purpose consists in evaluating if there is any possibility of lexical semantics based upon Psychomechanics. After reading the complete works of G. Guillaume (both published and not ) our theoretical plan is defined. After consideration of the works of his heirs (both direct or not), the way in which his theory was followed up is examined. In order to accomplish this, the works of A. Eskénazi, Th. Ponchon, J. Picoche and B. Pottier are analized in regard of structural semantics. Then, Psychomechanics are collated to cognitive approaches (prototype theory and works of R. W. Langacker, M-L. Honeste and J-P. Desclés) and in the end, some particulars for researching will be provided.

Gustave Guillaume (1883/1960) a fondé la psychomécanique du langage, une théorie linguistique à la fois structurale et mentaliste. Alors qu'on ne compte plus les apports de cette théorie en syntaxe et en sémantique grammaticale, la sémantique lexicale semble lui résister. Il s'agit d'évaluer ici la possibilité d'une sémantique lexicale d'inspiration guillaumienne. A partir d'une lecture de l'intégralité de son œuvre (publiée et inédite), on présente ses positions relativement au mot, afin de définir un cadre d'analyse. Par un examen des travaux de ses héritiers, directs ou indirects, on estime ce qu'il reste de l'héritage. On s'intéresse d'abord aux applications d'A. Eskénazi, T. Ponchon, J. Picoche et B. Pottier, en relation avec la sémantique structurale, puis on confronte la psychomécanique à des approches cognitives contemporaines (théorie du prototype et travaux de R W. Langacker, M-L Honeste et J-P. Desclés). Et, pour finir, on essaie de proposer quelques directions de recherche.
