L'itineraire initiatique de marguerite yourcenar a travers son oeuvre

The work of marguerite yourcenar is known to be dense and tremendously various. Rather than selecting one theme out of this mosaic, we prevered to organise the whole work according to a directed axis which would figure the inner itinerary of yourcenar herself. Thus, it is through a constant parallelism between the author and her characters that we brought out three main phases punctuating yourcenar's itinerary. First, a time when the seeker thinks that he naturally owns all the possible knowledge, then, comes the night of the soul. A phase of complete dissolution and renouncement where one has to die to all his past and allow a new day to come. The third phase is finally the access to real wisdom. In our thesis, we tried to demonstrate that not only the author obeys to this movement but also all her typical characters such as hadrien, zeno, marcella, alexis, jean-louis de berlaimont and almost all the heroes of "feux".

L'oeuvre de margurite yourcenar est une oeuvre dense et extremement variee. Plutot que d'en isoler un theme precis afin de l'etudier separement, nous avons prefere ordonner l'oeuvre entiere autour d'un axe oriente qui figurerait le cheminement interieur de yourcenar. C'est donc dans un perpetuel mouvement de va-et-vient entre auteur et personnages que sont apparues les trois phases de ce que nous avons appele l'itineraire initiatique: les sources d'abord ou l'etre croit posseder la somme de tout le savoir. La nuit obscure, phase de dissolution et de renoncement ou il faut mourir a soi-meme afin de pouvoir renaitre sur un plan superieur de conscience et de vie. Enfin, l'acces a la sagesse, une sagesse particuliere faite d'un melange d'acceptation, de divine desinvolture face aux "grands petits evenements" du quotidien. Et, pour terminer, d'une concentration sur le "vide" ou vacuite, exercice boudhiste visant a l'elimination du superficiel qui voile la brillance de l'ame nue.
