The main aim of this is to trace the historical development and make the theory of the "ana" or "ana-book" genre. An "ana" is a collection of sayings and pronouncements from a scientist or scholar of great repute, collated by one or several of his disciples. It is thus defined on the double basis of its title and of its content. The present study establishes the main dates when the genre was born and when the word "ana" was fisrt used. It determines the possible models of this type of work, in the days of humanism, and how writers modified the genre until 1710. An analysis of the critiques bearning on ana-miscellanies in books and news-sheets shown the expectations and biases of the learned circies; it also demonstrates that the collections raise new problems as to the nature, bases and status of the text, which are here addressed. A monography is devoted to each of the twenty-three works in the corpus. It comprises the determination of the date and circumstances of publication, an analysis of the composition of the work and its mains themes, and a survey of the testimonies on its reception by critics and in the general public.

Cette these vise a faire l'histoire et la theorie du genre des "ana", ou "livres en -ana". Un ana est le recueil des propos d'un savant celebre, notes par un ou plusieurs disciples. Il se definit donc en partie par le titre, en partie par le contenu. On etablit les dates marquantes de la naissance du genre, celle de l'apparation du mot ana; on identifie les modeles possibles, a l'age humaniste, de ce type d'ouvrage, et on montre comment les autres le firent evoluer jusqu'en 1710. L'etude des jugements critiques sur les ana, dans les livres et dans les journaux, met en evidence les attentes et les partis pris du milieu savant; elle montre aussi que ces recueils posent des problemes de fond nouveaux, qu'on s'efforcent d'analyser. A chacun des vingt-trois ouvrages du corpus est consacree une etude monographique: on cherche a fixer les dates et les circonstances de la publication; on analyse la composition du recueil et ses principaux themes; on recapitule les temoignages sur l'accueil qu'il recut de la part de la critique et du public.
