This thesis aims at explaining the opposition "en dans" in modern french. It contains an introduction to the linguistic system of french in order to establish a relationship of opposition between "en and "dans". Chapter ii deals with the two prepositions "en" and "dans" drom the point of view of their distinctive power. The last part presents, starting from a corpus of linguistic data, the hypothesis which seems to rule the use of one of the two prepositions rather than the otehr in modern french.

Le but de cette these est d'etudier l'opposition en dans en francais moderne. Elle comprend une introduction au systeme de la langue, dans le but d'etablir une relation d'opposition entre en et dans. Le deuxieme chapitre examine les deux prepositions en et dans du point de vue de leur pouvoir distinctif. Enfin, le dernier chapitre presente, a partir d'une certaine quantite de faits, l'hypothese qui nous semble dicter l'emploi de l'une ou de l'autre de ces deux prepositions en francais moderne.
