Abstract EN:

Three experiments on the perception of prosody have been set up using stimuli recorded by an english speaker. A total of 180 subjects took part in these experiments : 158 were french - professional musicians, students specializing in english, and technology -oriented iut students - as well as 24 english students. The first test on the perception of melody tried to determine if listeners could accurately identify a rising or falling pitch movement. The second test on the perception of stress tried to determine whether the different groups of listeners perceived stressed syllables in a different way. In the third test on the perception of rhythm, listeners had to decide which rhythmic structure fitted best the stimuli they had heard. For each test, the answers were converted into percentages and commented upon with the help of triangular graphs. These answers were then analyzed in conjunction with the main acoustic parameters studied (frequency, intensity, duration). The results have shown that for subjects not specializing in english the fluency level was significant. Furthermore, professional musicians judged pitch movements much more consistently than all other subjects. However, their answers were sometimes at odds with the answers given by english listeners as regards the perception of stress. Finally, the principle of rhythmic alternation seemed to be a crucial factor for the perception of rhythmic structures.

Une serie de trois tests sur la perception de la prosodie a ete constituee a partir de stimuli enregistres par un locuteur anglophone. Au total, 180 auditeurs ont pris part a ces tests : 158 francophones (musiciens de haut niveau, etudiants en anglais et etudiants d'un iut) ainsi que 24 anglophones. Le premier test sur la perception de la melodie cherchait a determiner dans quelle mesure les auditeurs parvenaient a identifier correctement un mouvement melodique montant ou descendant. Le deuxieme test sur la perception de l'accent cherchait a etablir si les divers groupes de sujets percevaient les sylla bes accentuees de maniere differente. Pour le troisieme test sur la perception du rythme, les auditeurs devaient attribuer une structure rythmique aux stimuli entendus. Les reponses des sujets ont ete comptabilisees par groupe, converties en pourcentages puis commentees a l'aide de graphiques triangulaires. Ces reponses ont ensuite ete confrontees aux mesures des principaux parametres acoustiques etudies (frequence, intensite, duree). Ces experiences ont montre que, pour les non specialistes, la hierarchie etablie a partir de leur niveau de competence en anglais etait significative. De plus : a. Les musiciens professionnels ont juge de la direction des mouvements melodiques avec beaucoup plus de precision que les autres sujets. B. Pour l'accent, les reponses des musiciens et des anglophones divergent plus frequemment que pour la melodie. C. Le principe d'alternance rythmique semble etre l'un des principaux facteurs orientant la perception des structures rythmiques.
