Abstract EN:

The word order appears to be the major problem in the phenomenon of the adverbial modification in chinese. The crucial distinction between the two types of adverbial elements, i. E. Adverbial and complement, is their pre- and postverbal position. In addition, they can be distinguished by their semantic properties, their scopes and their hierarchy levels. The adverbial sequence depends on the difference of scope. The locative which takes the initial position of the existential sentences functions as a topic. The adverbial propositions such as the causals and the conditionals, though their distribution is similar, do not have the same syntactic structure. The restrictive distribution of the adverbial elements in the cleft sentences can be accounted of by their scope as well as the stative nature of the predicates that they associate with.
