Mallarme et le mystere du "livre"

Thedraftnotes of mallarme's "livre" are related to a neo-hegelian attempt to reconstitute the unity of the absolute "split in two", by the means of a reflexive selfawareness of the absolute, obtained by an "operation" of universal "reading". But the "drama" of the livre is that this "equation" can only be thought as an infinite asymptotical tension : "to redeem this scission" would be to abolish the absolute "fulgorously"; it is therefore necessary to "stop in time in this operation". This metaphysical necessity-impossibility (double bind) is fantasmaticaly thematized as an unachievable mystical "hymen". We then see how the impossibility of the eschatological fulfilment of the livre leads to a crisis in the idealistic scheme of scission-reunion, how the impasse reorientates thought towards other spiritual ways ( a biblical scheme ), and how, the livre being thought as the verbal analogon of the universe, the impossibility of its combinatory fulfilment is isomorphic to the epistemological crisis of determinism and imposes regenerating neguentropical openings against the entropy of any thermodynamical process. This crisis of the notion of system at the end of the 19e century leads to the reciprocical interdependence of the livre and of history as non-totality : the livre, inexistant by definition, based on the neguentropical failure of the operators's sacrifice, presents self-effacement as a condition for the survival of history.

Les brouillons du "livre" de mallarme relevent de la tentative neo-hegelienne de reconstituer l'unite originelle de l'absolu "a tort scinde en deux", a l'aide d'une prise de conscience de l'absolu par lui-meme obtenue par une "operation" de "lecture" universelle. Mais le "drame" du "livre" est que cette "equation" ne peut etre pensee qu comme tension asymptotique infinie : "racheter cette scission" serait abolir "fulguramment" l'absolu lui-meme; il faut donc "s'arreter a temps en cette operation". Cette necessite-impossibilite metaphysique (double bind) est fantasmatiquement thematisee, dans les brouillons du "livre", par un "hymen" mystique irrealisable. Nous voyons alors comment l'impossibilite de l'accomplissement pleromatique et eschatologique du "livre" met en crise le scheme idealiste scission-reunion, comment l'impasse reoriente la pensee vers d'autres voies spirituelles (le scheme biblique), eet, le livre etant concu comme l'analogon verbal de l'univers, comment l'impossibilite de son accomplissement combinatoire est isomorphe a la crise epistemologique du determinisme et impose, contre l'entropie de tout processus de type thermodynamique, des ouvertures neguentropiques regenerantes. Cette contribution a l'analyse de la crise generale de la notion de systeme a la fin du xixe debouche sur l7etude de l'interdependance reciproque du livre et de l'histoire comme non-totalite: le livre, definitionnellement inexistant, renoncant a se clore en systeme, fonde sur la faille neguentropique du sacrifice de l'operateur, montre l'effacement de soi comme condition d'une sur-vie de l'histoire.
