The title of this these has not changed but the subject is too cast to be limited in the series of Ferdinand Brunot. To study the ideology of the thind republique, you need to redefine in your personal philosophy the influences of political thoughts in history and the culture of the time. The first part (t. 1) is devoted to Brunot's biography, professor of history in the french language, dean of the Sorbonne, mayor of the 14th sector of Paris and "academicien". The second part (t. 2) is given over to the struggle led by the author using his own writing spelling reforms, school work and "the history of the french language". The third part shows Brunot leaving his mark of the city: the Alliance française, is the work of the dean himself ; reform of the secondary education of 1923, notes on the grammar of l'Académie française, written when he was mayor. The conclusion attempts to show the connection maintained by Brunot during the 3rd République. The last volume includes the unedited texts of Brunot, the bibliography, and the index.

Le titre de la thèse n'a pas été changé quand le sujet, trop vaste, a été restreint à l'idéologie de Ferdinand Brunot. Pour étudier l'idéologue de la IIIème République, il faillait retrouver, dans l'idéologie personnelle, les influences de la pensée politique, de l'histoire, de la culture du temps. La première partie (t. 1) est consacrée à la biographie de Brunot, professeur d'histoire de la langue française, doyen de la Sorbonne, maire du XIVème arrondissement de Paris, académicien. La deuxième partie (t. 2) est consacrée aux luttes menées par l'écrivain à l'aide de ses écrits, réforme de l'orthographe, ouvrages scolaires, archives de la parole, "histoire de la langue française". La troisième partie (t. 3) montre Brunot imprimant sa marque sur la ville : Alliance française, œuvre de doyen, réforme de l'enseignement secondaire de 1923 "observations sur la grammaire de l'Académie française", œuvre du maire. La conclusion essaie de montrer les rapports entretenus par Brunot avec la IIIème République. Le dernier volume comprend la publication de textes de Brunot probablement inédits, la bibliographie, un index.
