His thesis intends to refute a contemporary prejudice, derived from rousseau: that philosophy should take action against the mind on the post of nature, and so yield reparations for the damage to its rights, occasioned by industry. Phenomenology and marxism share, in this respect, the same suspicion towards "technique" : be it the instrumentalism, fe tishism, or objectivism discussed by heidegger, marx and husserl, industrial production causes a sickness in the mind by sending it a false idea of its vocation. Yet the ideal community that philosophy means to promote, only finds proof of its possibility and even its reality in th e effective universality of strictly industrial ways of producing. In the same way, the threefold theme to be found in modern literature : the ugliness of spoilt nature, the falseness of the artifices that mask it, the baseness of those that sacrifice themselves to industry, only finds its real meaning through a reversal of perspective : the betrayal of nature is, in reality, a betrayal of the mind by the mind.

Cette these entend refuter un prejuge contemporain, apres avoir ete rousseauiste: la philosophie aurait a instruire le proces de l'esprit au nom de la nature, en reparation des dommages que l'industrie aurait entraine par la violation de s es droits. Phenomenologie et marxisme partagent a cet egard une meme suspicion envers la "technique" : que ce soit comme instrumentalisme, fetichisme ou objectivisme, chez heidegger, marx et husseri, la production industrielle entraine une maladie de l'esprit en lui renvoyant une image faussee de sa mission. Pourtant la communaute ideale que la philosophie entend promouvoir ne trouve que dans l'universalite effective des modes de produire proprement industriels la preuve de sa possibilite, voire de sa realite. De meme, le triple theme litteraire moderne: la laideur de la nature gachee, la faussete des artifices qui la pallient, la bassesse des hommes qui se sacrifient a l'industrie, ne trouve de coherence que par un renversement de perspective : la trahison de la nature est en sa verite trahison de l'esprit par l'esprit. L'evolution du concept philosophique de la division du travail, de platon a milne edwards, illustre le quiproquo.
