To what extent can a "theoretical detour" be considered as justified as far as knowledge of work is concerned ? can a gap be instituted here between experience and its conceptualization so that mankind, although unified by the effect worked on itself through social production, would be led to reinserting here a certain conception of incommensurability between those who do the work and the intellectual specialists on work ? part one aims at trying to determine from the works of a. Leroi-gourhan, c. Levi-strauss, m. Weber, and from the differential relationships to concept upheld by intellectual circles on the one hand, and by the world of work on the other, just how this gap between experience and knowledge is, or is not, fostered by the actual concept of culture itself. In what way can experience of work influence language ? this possibility, analysed from m. Granger's writings, leads to a reappraisal of the concept of culture, as confirmed by "working class industrialism", illustrated by an example in mulhouse en 1830 and continued throughout the history of the working class movement. In as much therefore, as experience of work engenders its own conceptual virtualities, this then leads to a critical reviewing of certain representations of social thought (l. Althusser, m. Foucault, p. Bourdieu,. . . ) part three is a factual study of work aiming at verifying these theories using technological, biological, ergonomical and historical sources. Data thus acquired and a comparison with marx's works, bring to light significant factors for an approach to the very concept itself of work. Lastly some epistemological and methodological consequences are drawn from the above facts (interface concept, role of the infinitesimal); the conclusion, in a sense, suggests a pluridisciplinary approach to work, presupposing recognition of experience of work as enigmatically commensurable with the movement that is seeking to gain knowledge of it.

Dans quelle mesure le "detour theorique" est-il legitime en ce qui concerne la connaissance du travail ? faut-il instituer ici une coupure entre l'experience et sa conceptualisation en sorte que l'humanite, pourtant unifiee par le travail qu'elle opere sur elle-meme a travers la production sociale, devrait reinserer ici une forme d'incommensurabilite entre les acteurs et les specialistes intellectuels du travail ? on essaye dans une premiere partie de voir d'abord a travers les oeuvres de a. Leroi-gourhan, c. Levi-strauss, m. Weber. . . Et les rapports differentiels au concept entretenus par la sphere intellectuelle et le monde du travail, comment cette coupure entre experience et connaissance peut etre ou non vehiculee par le concept de culture lui-meme. Comment l'experience du travail peut-elle travailler le langage ? cette possibilite, analysee a partir de l'oeuvre de m. Granger, conduit a une reappreciation du concept de culture, comme le confirme l'"industrialisme ouvrier", illustre sur un exemple a mulhouse vers 1830, et poursuivi dans l'histoire du mouvement ouvrier. Dans la mesure ou l'experience du travail porte ainsi ses virtualites de conceptualisation d'elle-meme, cela induit une revision critique de certaines representations de la pensee sociale. (l. Althusser, m. Foucault, p. Bourdieu. . . ) la troisieme partie part de l'etude concrete du travail pour verifier ces theses a l'aide des ressources de la technologie, de la biologie, de l'ergonomie, de l'histoire. . . Sur ces acquis et a travers une confrontation avec l'oeuvre de marx, se dessinent les dimensions pertinentes selon lesquelles approcher le concept meme de travail. Une derniere partie en tire quelques consequences epistemologiques et methodologiques (concept d'interface, role de l'infinitesimal); la conclusion fait apparaitre en quel sens une approche pluridisciplinaire du travail suppose la reconnaissance de l'experience du travail comme enigmatiquement commensurable avec le mouvement qui cherche a le connaitre.
