In response to the common quarrel between translation and linguistic studies, we pledge in favor of reconciliation between these two disciplines. One of the positive outcomes of this mutual collaboration is the improvement of the lexicographic tools intended for translators. Accordingly, this research describes the methodology followed to build a new electronic bilingual dictionary (French/Spanish). Our approach is based on linguistic theories that place semantics in the center of their concerns, such as the Role and Reference Grammar, Frame Semantics and the Functional Lexematic Model. The methodology followed combines the study of the lexicographic tools available with semi-automatic corpus analysis. We focus on the verb due to the central role it plays in discourse. More specifically, we explore the semantic field of counting verbs, with special attention to the specificity of the verbs chiffrer, compter, comptabiliser, dénombrer, énumérer, numéroter and recenser, their semantic-syntactic structures as well as the cognitive organization of their lexical domain. Counting verbs, not studied in depth so far, refer to a main activity whose importance in humankind equals writing.

En réponse à la querelle traditionnelle entre linguistique et traduction, nous soutenons que la linguistique est à même de proposer des solutions innovantes pour faciliter et améliorer la qualité de la production textuelle, notamment en créant des outils lexicographiques pour la traduction. Ce travail décrit la méthodologie de construction d’un prototype de dictionnaire électronique bilingue (français/espagnol). Notre démarche s’inscrit notamment dans le courant des théories qui situent la sémantique au centre des préoccupations, telles que la Role and Reference Grammar, la Sémantique des Cadres et le Functional Lexematic Model. La méthodologie suivie associe l’étude des ouvrages lexicographiques existants et les analyses semi-automatiques de corpus. L’unité linguistique choisie est le verbe, catégorie centrale de l’énoncé. Le champ sémantique du comptage constitue notre objet d’étude. Nous explorons la spécificité du type de comptage dénoté par les verbes chiffrer, compter, comptabiliser, dénombrer, énumérer, numéroter et recenser, leurs structures sémantico-syntaxiques ainsi que l’organisation cognitive du domaine dans lequel ils s’inscrivent. Les verbes de comptage, peu étudiés jusqu’à présent, réfèrent à une activité fondamentale chez l’homme d’importance égale à celle de l'écriture.
