L'écriture de l'histoire en Nouvelle-Calédonie entre les accords de Matignon et de Nouméa (1988-1998) : de la voix collective d'un manuel scolaire aux positionnements identitaires de ses auteurs

At the end of the conflict appeased by the Matignon agreements, a group of Caledonians, from different convictions and formations, undertook in 1991 the writing of the first textbook ever, entirely dedicated to New Caledonia' s history. Inspired by the spirit of the Matignon agreements, this group took up the challenge to produce a consensual historiography of New Caledonia, from Oceania' s prehistory to the latest events, relating the precolonial social organization and the stages of colonization. How, and at what price had the "Kanak" and the "Caldoches" found a common ground and were able to reach a common history ? That is the question we shall attempt to answer through the discourse analysis of the content of the book, chapter by chapter ; by and by, the study will be improved by taking into account the educational, ethnological and political interdiscourse in the textbook. The methodology, eclectic and empirical, takes as starting point, the counting of the specificities of the five chapters of the book with the software LEXICO 2. The discriminating forms reinserted into their context then become the object of enunciative, argumentative and actancial analysis. Taken on by their enunciators, two histories take form around the designations "Nouvelle-Calédonie" and "pays kanak". One reveals a historical imaginary trying to detach itself from the colonial evil ; the other integrates to its discourse a didactical and controversial aim. Interviews with the authors of the book, transcribed and analysed from the point of view of the designation and representation of " self " and " other ", confirm the political scope of the publication and shed light on the complexity of the identity positioning as well as the stakes in the perspective of " neo-caledonian " citizenship or " neo-caledonian " nationality open by the Noumea agreement in 1998.

Au sortir du conflit que les accords de Matignon apaisent, un collectif regroupant des Calédoniens, "de sensibilités et de formations différentes", entreprend, en 1991, la rédaction du premier manuel scolaire entièrement consacré à l'histoire de la Nouvelle-Calédonie. Inspiré par l'esprit des accords de Matignon, ce collectif relève le défi de produire une historiographie consensuelle depuis la préhistoire océanienne jusqu'aux événements les plus récents en retraçant l'organisation de la société précoloniale et les séquences de la colonisation. Comment, et au prix de quels compromis, des "Kanak " et des "Caldoches ", avaient-ils pu trouver un terrain d'entente et faire de leur histoire un récit commun ? C'est à cette question qu'on se propose de répondre par une analyse du discours des chapitres de l'ouvrage, qui, au fil de l'étude, s' enrichit de la prise en compte de l'interdiscours scolaire, ethnologique et politique. La démarche méthodologique, éclectique et empirique, prend pour point de départ le calcul des spécificités des cinq chapitres du manuel par le logiciel LEXICO 2. Les formes discriminantes, replacées dans leur contexte font alors l'objet d'analyses énonciatives, argumentatives et actancielles. Prises en charge par leurs énonciateurs, deux histoires se construisent autour des dénominations Nouvelle-Calédonie et pays kanak; l'une révèle un imaginaire historique tentant de se désolidariser du mal colonial, l'autre intègre à son discours une visée didactique et polémique. Réalisés avec des auteurs de l'ouvrage, des entretiens, transcrits et analysés du point de vue de la désignation et de la représentation de soi et de l'autre, confirment la portée politique de l'ouvrage et éclairent la complexité des positionnements identitaires ainsi que leurs enjeux dans la perspective de citoyenneté, ou de nationalité "néo-calédonienne ", ouverte par l'accord de Nouméa en 1998.
