The first part of the dissertation is concerned with novels following the 19th century realist tradition without any other influence. The first chapter presents two novels, which show a marked influence of Balzac's realism, although the impact of Duma's work is also quite strong. The second chapter is centred upon a naturalistic novel. The third chapter examines the "community novel" which developed under Zola's and Reymont's influence during the 1930's. The second part deals with novels, which move away from he European realist tradition and show other influences. In the first chapter the author discusses the decomposition of naturalist writing. The second chapter analyses the novels which were written under the influence of Knut Hamsun and other ruralist writers. The third chapter deals with the socialist turn which developed especially under the influence of Soviet literature: a generational novel, a proletarian novel, and an attempt at pure socilaist realism.

La première partie a trait aux romans réalistes s'inscrivant complètement dans la continuité du réalisme européen du XIXe siècle. Le premier chapitre présente deux romans fortement marqués par le réalisme de Balzasc (en dépit d'une forte influence de Dumas), le deuxième s'intéresse à une réalisation tardive du modèle naturaliste proposé par Zola et la troisième traite du "roman de la collectivité" qui s'est développé durant les années trente sous la double influence de Zola et de Reymont. La seconde partie est consacrée aux romans réalistes qui s'écartent de la tradition réaliste européenne sous l'impulsion de nouveaux modèles. Le premier chapitre est consacré à la "décomposition" du naturalisme, le deuxième a trait aux romans d'une forte influence du ruralisme de Knut Hamsun et le troisième présente "la dérive socialiste", les romans influencés par la vie littéraire soviétique: un roman "de génération", un roman prolétarien et un "essai de socialiste".
