Abstract EN:
This thesis which attempts to study musset's influence of darkness and death upon saint-denys garneau, also reveals a romantic side of the quebec poet hitherto overlooked. Through their experience with death, both poets seek the light in passing through the twilight fog, the shadow, the night and the dark water. Despite musset's important influence, garneau's originality emerges very early and musset's echo ends up interiorized and intensely lived throughout his poetry especially in themes and images such as the mortal twirling of a bird gone astray between the past and the future above the water of reality, of a forever fleeting light in unstable equilibricim, of the elusive double, of the being seated or bying down in front of a wall as a sign of failure, of the dead being who asks for water in the night garden. In the final analysis, garneau remains himself by his attitude in being a child offended by the adult world and by death, by his obsession with his loss of substance matter and with his disintegration of the self, by his obsession with transparency and of the dark feminine maternal water where his entire universe is synthesized.
