L'Odyssée : les avatars d'un mythe au cinéma

As a form, the odyssian myth reveals a structure founded on five interactive invariables. Using what we consider to be its most representative film incarnations (five feature-length motion pictures), we have highlighted the preponderant rôle played in these films by archetypes of the myth, and the consequent pertinence of a jungian-inspirated analysis. The principal peplum studied convincingly suggests the relevance of a psychoanalytical interpretation. Certain incarnations of the myth orginating from the "cinéma d'auteur" reinforce this interior dimension by intermingling the quest for identity with issues of thought and ideology. Setting homeric transcriptions to one side, the distillation of the structure encourages amplification of the archetypes which reorientates the myth towards a psychological allegory of individuation. The drama of the myth is described on the fictional stage in the psychic conflicts generated by the precarity of identity and the fear of death.

Envisagé comme forme, le mythe odyssien révèle une structure fondée sur cinq invariants en interaction. A la lumière de ses avatars filmiques les plus représentatifs (cinq long métrages), nous avons mis en évidence le rôle prépondérant joué par les archétypes dans le schème, ce qui rend pertinent une analyse d'inspiration jungienne. Dans le principal péplum étudié, la diégèse suggère effectivement une lecture psychanalytique. Certains avatars du cinéma d'"auteur" approfondissent cette dimension intérieure en mêlant à la quête identitaire des considérations réflexives et idéologiques. Dans les avatars qui ne se réclament pas d'Homère, la réduction du schème favorise l'amplification des archétypes qui réorientent le mythe vers l'allégorie psychologique de l'individualisation. Les situations dramatique du mythe transcrivent sur la scène fictionnelle les conflits psychiques qui figurent la précarité de l'être et l'angoisse de la mort.
