This doctoral dissertation opart from the exotism tries to abstract the bonaparte expedition's and its impacts on egypt ; it evokes the endogenous, the specifiq egyptian muslin at the end of the 18e century and makes prominent what is related to the collective identity and the particularities of an egypto - mameluk - ottoman power. However it loes not ignore the beneficial contributions of the french enlightement philosophy and the revolution, to egyptian culture egypt faced with the sudden french intrusion stopped inestimatruy, itself, exercised an option, and built up its own renaissance. It was not the uniformity of cultures but the freedom of borrowing from others, without being shodowed. The contemporary egyptian conscionsness underlines the impact of this ont stonding event - the expedition on the modern egyptian culture.

Cette these essaie de soustraire l'expedition de bonaparte et ses effets egypte a son exotisme tenace en faisant appel a l'endogene, au specifique egyptien musulman a la fin du xviiie siecle : elle fait prevaloir ce qui touche a l'identite collective et aux particularites d'un pouvoir egyptien mamclouk - ottoman. Neanmoins, elle ne neglige pas l'apport benefique du savoir francais des lumieres et de la revolution a la culture egyptienne. L'egypte se mesura devant l'intrusion francaise brusque, opera un choix et dressa sa renaissance. Ce ne fut pas l'uniformation des cultures mais la liberte d'emprunter aux autres sans etre obnubilee. La conscience egyptienne contemporaine met l'accent sur l'importance de cet evenement saillant - l'expedition - sur la culture moderne de l'egypte.
