Abstract EN:

In grande sertao: veredas, by joao guimaraes rosa, through the wilderness of the arid lands, the protagonist takes combat to the terrible hermogenes. After an apparent pact with the devil which had occurred in the known place as "veredas mortas" (dying veredas), riobaldo assumes the name of "urutu branco" and ends by eliminating his adversary. After the victory over hermogenes, riobaldo, transformed into urutu, returns to the place of the pact and gets knowledge that "veredas mortas" doesn't exist any more. In fact, the hero discovers that henceforth the local will be known through the proper name of "veredas altas" (high veredas). Therefore, the advent of the victory over hermogenes will have by correlation the "revival" - under a high form of life - of those veredas: from "veredas mortas", they will become the undeniable "veredas altas". To beat hermogenes it is necessary to make a pact with the cao, to ignore habao, to cross the liso of sussuarao, to win the battle of tamandua-tao, to eliminate ricardao: numerous enigmas which form a united sonorous tissue of underneath meanings. So, the scene of the pact with the "que-diga", the possessor of the word, lucifer the owner of the verbal light, will be seen as the key of reading and as alegoric scene of passage in the transformation of the arbitrary sign to the motivated sign. These enigmas will be interpreted on the base of linguistics analysis of the key terms of the text: transporting of grammatical classes, homophonia, homonym, metonym, metaphors, lexical agglutination, semic superposition, oral intonation variation, among others. The reading of grande sertao: veredas which defines our hypothesis of work is that which is the nearest of the word in its dimension of artistic manifestation: the novel as reflection - metaphoric - about the literary creation, the genesis of the poetic work and further about the vocation of the writer, the "io bardo" of riobaldo. The romance solves therefore as a big enigma to be decoded.

Dans grande sertao: veredas, de joao guimaraes rosa, a travers le sertao, les terres arides, le protagoniste donne combat au terrible hermogenes. A la suite d'un suppose pacte avec satan, qui aurait eu lieu a l'endroit connu du nom de "veredas mortas", riobaldo prend le surnom de "urutu branco" et finit par eliminer son adversaire. Apres la victoire sur hermogenes, riobaldo, transforme en urutu, revient sur les lieux du pacte et apprend que les "veredas mortas" n'existent plus ; ou plutot, le heros apprend que dorenavant l'endroit sera connu a travers le toponyme "veredas altas". Aussi, l'avenement de la victoire sur hermogenes aura en contrepartie la "revitalizacao" - sous une haute forme de vie - de ces veredas sertanejas-la : de "veredas mortas" qu'elles ont ete, elles deviendront des incontestables "veredas altas". Afin de vaincre hermogenes, il faudra a riobaldo pactiser avec le cao, ignorer seo habao, traverser le liso du sussuarao, reussir la bataille du tamandua-tao, eliminer ricardao: autant d'enigmes qui forment un coherent tissu sonore de significations subjacentes. En l'occurrence, la scene du pacte avec le "que-diga", celui qui detient la parole, lucifer porteur de lalumiere verbale, sera concue comme clef de lecture et comme scene allegorique de passage dans la transformation du signe arbitraire en signe motive. Ces enigmes seront decodes par l'intermediaire de l'analyse linguistique de vocables clefs du texte : transposition de classes grammaticales, homophonie, homonymie, metonymes, metaphores, agglutination lexicale, superposition semantique, variation d'intonation orale, entre autres. La lecture de grande sertao: veredas qui definit notre hypothese de travail est celle qui se trouve etre la plus proche du mot dans sa dimension de manifestation artistique : le roman comme oeuvre qui se veut une reflexion - metaphorique - autour de la creation litteraire, de la genese de l'oeuvre poetique, de la vocation de l'ecrivain, ce "io bardo" de riobaldo. Leroman se resoudra ainsi comme une grande enigme speculaire a dechiffrer. Mots clefs: (1) guimaraes rosa, (2) grande sertao: veredas, (3) litterature speculaire, (4) poetique de l'enigme.
