The aim of this thesis is to study the parallel evolution of the social values and of the structure of the family in each social class, in great-britain, between nineteen ten and nineteen twenty face to the metamorphosis of the image and of the function of the individual, under the influence of the new politics of socialization led by the radical liberals, especially under the incentive of david lloyd george. The introduction of this thesis deals with the notion of ideology; then the first chapter relates the birth of this new political theory, its setting and its justification aimed at strengthening the british society and counterparting the mood of social entropy which had been spreading since the boer war. The second, third and fourth chapters are divided chronologically and deal with the evolution of the structure of the family in each social class, between nineteen ten and nineteen fourteen, between nineteen fourteen and nineteen eighteen and between ninenteen eighteen and ninenteen twenty. In each part, the references to the main political, economic and social events, and the use of human statistics, extracts from autobiographies and diaries lay the emphasis on the metamorphosis of each family. The fifth chapter underlines the vanishing away of faith, at the profit of mere respectability, the evolution of the notion of home and the transformation of the family into a social value. Finally

Le but de cette these est d'etudier l'evolution parallele des valeurs sociales et de la structure familiale, dans chaque classe sociale, en grande-bretagne entre mille neuf cent dix et mille neuf cent vingt face a la metamorphose de l'image et du role de l'individu dans la societe britannique sous l'influence de la nouvelle ideologie politique socialisante pronee par les liberaux radicaux, et notamment sous l'impulsion de david lloyd george. Cette these comprend donc une introduction traitant de la notion de l'ideologie; puis le premier chapitre demontre comment est nee la nouvelle philosophie liberale et comment sa mise en application a ete legitimee, afin de renforcer la societe britannique et de combattre le sentiment d'entropie sociale qui se propageait depuis la guerre des boers. Les second, troisieme et quatrieme chapitres suivent un decoupage chronologique et concernent l'evolution de la structure familiale dans chaque classe sociale, entre mille neuf cent dix et mille neuf cent quatorze, entre mille neuf cent quatorze et mille neuf cent dix-huit et entre mille neuf cent dix-huit et mille neuf cent vingt. Dans chaque partie, la mention des principaux evenements politiques, economiques et sociaux, l'utilisation de statistiques humaines et d'extraits d'autobiographies et de journaux personnels, permet de mettre en evidence la metamorphose de chaque cellule familiale. Le cinquieme chapitre souligne le declin de la foi, au profit de la simple respectabilite, l'evolution de la notion de foyer et la tranformation de la famille en valeur sociale.
