Abstract EN:
In 1991, canada had more than eight hundred thousands inhabitants of fenno-scandinavian origins who formed about three per cent of its total population. This study attempts to determine whether the fennoscandinavian ancestry group is an ethnic group. First, the analysis focuses on the different phases of finnish and scandinavian migration to canada. The second part deals with the patterns of adaptation of immigrant groups and transition of canadian generations. Finally, the contemporary situation of canadians of fenno-scandinavian origins is discussed within the context of the official policy of multiculturalism. The thesis concludes that the integration of finnish and scandinavian canadians has been transcultural and that the primary identity of persons of fenno-scandinavian ancestry who are for the most part of mixed origins, is today a canadian one.
