The importance of collective consciousness in African societies has often been considered as an obstacle to autobiographical writing, yet autobiographical works appeared with the beginnings of literature in French language in black Africa ; where to this day it still occupies an important place. Its production has continued to grow in various and hybrid forms : factual, fictionnal stories, which simulate these narrative forms and autofictionnal stories. This study is divided into four sections. First an historical and sociological approach : the framing of the genre in historical context, the relationship between the individual and society ; then an analysis of the themes treated : authenticity, alienation, identity and otherness ; third a reflection on forms and literary models ; finally a poetical analysis and a reflection on the question of the subject and the relationship between an author and his wrtiting practice.

L'importance de la conscience collective dans les sociétés africaines a souvent été considérée comme un obstacle à l'écriture de soi, pourtant les écritures autobiographiques sont apparues dès les débuts de la littérature francophone en Afrique noire et y occupent aujourd'hui encore une place importante. Elles n'ont cessé de se développer jusqu'à nos jours dans des formes diverses et hybrides : récits factuels, textes fictionnels qui simulent les formes narratives du genre, formes autofictionnelles. Cette étude est organisée en quatre temps. D'abord une approche historique et sociologique : inscription du genre autobiographique dans un contexte historique, rapports entre l'individu et la société ; ensuite une analyse des thèmes abordés : authenticité, aliénation, identité et altérité ; puis une réflexion sur les formes et les modèles littéraires ; enfin une analyse poétique des textes et une réflexion sur la question du sujet et les rapports d'un auteur à sa pratique d'écriture.
