This study concerns a collection of discourses from the work of neophytus the recluse: the book of the catechetical sermons. Neophytes, a priest, monk and recluse (1134-1219) is of interest to all historians and philologists due to his fascinating life and personnality without any formal education and therefore, self-taught, he was the founder of a monastic community and the author of important spiritual works. The study aims at providing a critical editors of the text, a translation into french and a historical commentary of a part of the collection of the catechetical sermons. The chosen texts, unpublished up to the present day only constitute a part of the recluse's work. A study has also been proposed on the "bibliotheque sainte" of the monastery including manuscripts containing the written works of the recluse with a view to describing more fully the unique manuscript with the catechetical sermons provide us with. This manuscript, kept at the bibliotheque nationale de paris (paris. Suppl. Gr. 1317 olim metochion s. Sepulcri 370), is the original manuscript containing notes made by the recluse himself it consists of two books containing 24 and 32 catechetical sermons respectively. Furthermore, this study examines precise details on the liturgy and life of the monastic community of which neophytos undertook the management and more generally on the monastic institution in cyprus. Our aim is neither to judge (or judge on the basis of the principles of the time in which he lived) nor to correct the recluse who, despite these new paleographic factors, hides himself discreetly in his enkleistra, a unique exemple of a recluse for all of us who are on the outside.

Ce travail concerne un recueil de discours de l'oeuvre de neophyte le reclus: le livre des catecheses. Neophyte pretre, moine et reclus (1134-1219) attire l'interet de tout historien ou de tout philologue du fait de sa vie et de sa personnalite etonnantes. Sans aucune formation intellectuelle, et donc pur autodidacte, il fut le fondateur d'une communaute monastique, et l'auteur d'oeuvres spirituelles importantes. L'etude a pour but l'edition critique, la traduction en francais, le commentaire historique d'une partie du recueil des catecheses. Les textes choisis, inedits jusqu'a ce jour, ne constituent qu'une partie de l'oeuvre du reclus. Une etude a aussi ete proposee sur la bibliotheque sainte du monastere y compris des manuscrits contenant les oeuvres ecrites du reclus, en vue de mieux decrire le manuscrit unique qui nous conserve les catecheses. Ce manuscrit, conserve a la bibliotheque nationale de paris (paris. Suppl. Gr. 1317 olim metochion s. Sepulcri 370), est le manuscrit original, portant des annotations de la main meme du reclus. Il comporte deux livres constitues respectivement de 24 et de 32 catecheses. Cette etude examine en outre des indications precieuses sur la liturgie et sur la vie de la communaute monastique dont neophyte assure la direction, et, plus generalement, sur le monachisme a chypre. Notre but n'est ni de juger (ou alors juger avec les elements de l'epoque ou il a vecu) ni de corriger le reclus qui finalement, malgre ces quelques nouveaux elements paleographiques etc. , se cache discretement dans son enklcistra, exemple unique d'un reclus pour nous tous qui sommes dehors.
