Based on the examination of the all Greek manuscripts, whose it gives a new classification, this edition contains a complete history of the text (manuscript and printed) of the first book of the Roman antiquities. The introduction situates Dionysius of Halicarnassus in the political and literary background of the Augustan Rome, and relates the roman antiquities to the former and contemporary Greek historical writing. The commentary, both philological and historical, compares the legendary tales reported by Denys to the Greek and Latin literary traditions, and to the new archeological discoveries.
