Published in 1771, journey around the world by the sailor bougainville is the result of a rewriting process which originates in the tradition of logbooks. Intented for an administrative and political use, this document goes beyond its initial aims inciting the explorer to confidence, and thus becomes the excuse and the framework of the journey story. Therefore bougainville reworks his notes in order to get a tool capable of filling some scientific gaps or answering the "philosophers" expectations through the myth of tahiti, which in fact hides a qualified view of the "savage" world. He finally captivates his readers by highlighting the originality of the regions he went through or the events he lived so as to give his story some of the charms of "exoticism" and adventure, without forgetting to try to be like the ideal of the "traveller-philosopher".

Paru en 1771, le voyage autour du monde du navigateur bougainville se presente comme le resultat d'un long processus de reecriture trouvant son origine dans la tradition du journal de bord. Destine a un usage administratif et politique, ce document depasse vite ses buts initiaux en incitant l'explorateur a la confidence, et devient ainsi le pretexte et l'ossature du recit de voyage. Bougainville retravaille donc ses notes pour en faire un outil de travail capable de combler certaines lacunes scientifiques ou de repondre aux attentes des "philosophes" a travers le mythe de tahiti, qui cache en fait une vision nuancee du monde "sauvage". Enfin il finit de seduire le public en mettant en valeur l'originalite des regions traversees ou des evenements vecus pour donner a son recit les charmes de l'"exotisme" et du romanesque, sans oublier de se construire une image correspondant a l'ideal du "voyageur-philosophe".
