W ou le souvenir d'enfance de Georges Perec, un texte et son entour : étude de cryptanalyse

The thesis contends that the work of Georges Prec is built on the encrypting of a fantasy of the lack of filiation. This calls for a reading of the work through a synthetic grid, implying the consecutive working through of the thematic, "psychanalytic" and transformational levels, and of their variable modes of intersection. The notion of "cryptanalysis" is used in order to emphasise the esthetic dimension of the textual crypt, which is Prec's chief means of simulating the syntax of the unconscious - as distinct from an alleged autobiographical semi-unconscious, or obsessional type of writing. The thesis centers on the certified autobiographical works of Perec, privileging W or the memory of childhood (WSE). It is composed of three sections : section one, entilted "Situation of a writing", touches on the specificity of Perec's writing, perceived first through an evaluation of contemporary perecquian criticism, then though a "case study" (a close reading of a dream transcription from the Dark Store (LBO) allowing for a rigorous definition of the hermeneutical principles guiding the thesis ; section two, entitled "Inflexion of a writing", adresses the various level of cryptic encoding of the fantasy of absence through a close reading of WSE. This section studies the ways in which the phantasmatic dimension is flattened and engraved into thematic level of the text, resulting in a psychoanalytical mimesis rarely, if ever, taken into account as such by the critics ; section three, entitled "Mutations of a writing", studies the ways in which works posterior to WSE, and partaking of different aesthetic orientations, rewrite the invariable perecquian problematics. Ellis Island Tales (REI), in particular, enables to identify the places of displacement of the fantasy, redefined as a fundamental personal and aesthetic credo. The articulation of these three lines of research unravles an interpretative path allowing to retrace the evolution of a work in a new perspective, which calls for further development in the light of the paradigm of Second Genaration literature.

La thèse défendue consiste à poser que l'oeuvre de Perec s'édifie à partir de l'encryptage du fantasme de l'absence de filiation. Ceci appelle une lecture de l'oeuvre à la lumière d'un modéèle interprétatif synthétique, prévoyant la prise en compte consécutive des plans thématique, "psychanalytique" et transformationnel, et des modalités de leurs intersections. La notion de cryptanalyse a été introduite pour indiquer que le recours à la crypte textuelle définit, du point de vue esthétique, une mimésis du langage de l'inconscient, mimésis comme telle clairement reconnue et assumée par l'écrivain comme un éventail de figures rhétorico-poétiques, dont un auteur averti se joue dans le procès d'une écriture autobiographique. Le corpus a été délimité à partir des écrits autobiographiques avérés, en privilégiant W ou le souvenir d'enfance (WSE°. La présente recherche comporte trois parties : la première partie, intitulée "Situation d'une écriture", traite de la particularité de l'écriture de Georges Perec, envisagée à partir d'une évaluation des domaines critiques ern vigueur, suivie d'une "étude de cas" nous permettant d'expliciter sur une base textuelle concrète (un rêve transcrit dans LBO) notre modèle herméneutique ; la deuxième partie, intiutulée "Inflexions d'une écriture", considère les différents niveaux de codage cryptique du fantasme d'absence, à partir d'une lecture serrée de WSE. Cette partie rend compte des principaux procédés d'encryptage du fantasme à partir du plan thématique, avant d'intégrer plus avant le plan de la mimésis psychanalytique, généralement passé sous silence par la critique ; la troisième partie, intitulée "Mutations d'une écriture", tente de dégager de quelle manière les différents moments de l'oeuvre prennent en charge, au-delà de WSE, la même problématique, compte tenu d'autres orientations esthétiques. C'est notamment REI qui permet de repérer les lieux de déplacement du fantasme d'absence, désormais érigé en mythe fondateur. L'articulation de ces trois axes de recherche dessine un parcours interprétatif qui est de nature à retracer l'évolution d'une oeuvre dans une perspective jusque-là inédite, et appelée à de nouvelles extensions par rapport au paradigme de l'écriture de la Seconde Génération, comprise au sens global du terme.
