Abstract EN:
This thesis is a study of the representation of indians in the first three novels by louise erdrich : love medicine (1984), the beet queen (1986) and tracks (1988). The images proposed by this writer of chippewa origin are examined in the light of stereotypic depictions of indians, notably the following : "princess squaw", "ignoble savage noble savage", "the drunken indian" and "the vanishing indian. " particular attention is given to the fictional techniques employed by erdrich to subvert these representations, and ultimately, to the question of ethnic "authenticity" in literature.
