Abstract EN:

This work explores the satiric universe of the american poet e. E. Cummings (1894-1962), a worthy successor of the "literary comedians", and a direct heir to the great transcendental brahmines of new england. After examining the roots of his satiric universe made of an inherited comic tradition and some ingrained non-conformism, the study focuses on the targets of his satire. Then it turns to the study of the techniques used by the satirist, whether classical or modernist (inventive typography), time-honoured (invective, irony, parody), or contested (vulgarity, racism). Finally, it aims at revealing the links which, through the poetry, unite the biting spirit of satire to the lofty spiritual ideals of transcendentalism.
