His prolific, rich and original work ranks michel tremblay among the classics of contemporary quebecer litterature. The aim of our thesis is to prove that behind the networks of masks and illusions omnipresent in the author's novels and plays lies the porcess of a quest for his own identity as an individual but as a writer confronted with the act of writing, too. There are four parts in our research. The first one consists of a list of the masks and their avatars in the work. In the second one, we analyze their functions and underline their vanity. That deficiency is mitigated by numerous illusions. We analyze in a third part their setting and their role - destructive on the one hand, liberating and saving on the other hand. We finally attempt in the last part, to interpret the specificity of michel tremblay's writing. The disguised people and their fancy dresses express the state of a culturally degenerate country. A baroque aesthetic underlies the redundancies and the manifold comings and goings between the theatrical stage and the novelistic space - showing the genesis of a writing.

Son oeuvre abondante, riche et originale place michel tremblay au rang de classique de la litterature quebecoise contemporaine. Le but de notre these est de demontrer que derriere le reseau des masques et des illusions omnipresents dans l'oeuvre romanesque et theatrale de l'auteur s'installe le processus d'une quete identitaire relative a l'individu mais touchant aussi l'ecrivain confronte a l'acte d'ecrire. Notre recherche se compose de quatre parties. La premiere consiste en un repertoire des masques et de leurs avatars presents dans l'oeuvre. La deuxieme analyse leurs fonctions et souligne leur vanite. Cette insuffisance est palliee par les illusions multiples dont nous analysons, dans un troisieme temps, la mise en place et leurs roles destructeur d'une part, liberateur et salvateur d'autre part. Enfin, la derniere partie tente d'interpreter la specificite de l'ecriture tremblayenne. Les travestis et leurs deguisements traduisent l'etat d'un pays abatardi culturellement. Les redondances et les multiples chasse-croises entre scene theatrale et espace romanesque relevent d'une esthetique baroque, revelant la genese d'une ecriture.
