L'ecrivain et l'alterite dans la litterature italienne de la renaissance

The corpus of this thesis is a collection of nine studies devoted to italian renaissance literature. The object of this work is to throw light on the various interactions between literature and society. It focuses on three main points. First an analisis of the different social types and their representation in prose novella. Thus the characters of the peasant and the upstart, both representative of a certain social otherness, enable one to discover how the authors operated changes on the reality of their time in their narratives. A second approach to the processes by which the writer uses extraneous elements and appropriates them, consisted in studying different re-writing phenomena in the novella. These stylistic exercices, classic at the time, are only totally meaningful if they are related to the narrator's cultural aims. Finally the relationship between the writer and his public is considered in several studies. Certain works, for instance behavioural treatises, are cleanly meant to be didactic, but there may be some discrepancy between the intention and the realisation. Other texts, apparently neutral, conceal the writer's desire to guide the reader's moral reflexion and esthetic preferences, the anthology as a genre thus contributed to imposing a certain conception of poetry on the petrarchian model of court poetry. The different aspects of the writer's intentions and approaches have been closely related to the social and political changes that took place in renaissance italy, as well as to the role played by the development of printing.

Cette these rassemble neuf etudes, consacrees a la litterature italienne de la renaissance, qui veulent mettre en lumiere les interactions variees reliant litterature et societe. Trois principaux centres d'interet ont guide l'elaboration de ces travaux. Le premier concerne l'examen des types sociaux et leur representation dans les nouvelles en prose. Le personnage du paysan et celui du parvenu, tous deux representatifs d'une certaine alterite sociale, permettent ainsi de deceler les transformations operees par les textes narratifs sur la realite de leur temps. Une seconde approche des processus grace auxquels l'ecrivain utilise des elements etrangers pour se les approprier, a consiste a etudier dans la nouvelle differents phenomenes de reecriture. Ces exercices de style, classiques a l'epoque, ne prennent tout leur sens que si on les relie au projet culturel du narrateur. Enfin, les relations entre l'auteur et son public sont envisagees dans plusieurs etudes. Certaines oeuvres, par exemple les traites de comportement, affichent clairement leurs intentions didactiques, mais un decalage peut s'etablir entre celles-ci et la realisation effective. D'autres textes dissimulent sous une apparente neutralite leur souci de guider la reflexion morale du lecteur ou ses preferences esthetiques. Le genre de l'anthologie a ainsi pu contribuer a imposer une certaine conception de la poesie d'inspiration petrarquisante et courtisane. Ces differents aspects de la demarche de l'ecrivain ont ete etroite-ment associes aux transformations politiques et sociales que connait l'italie de la renaissance, ainsi qu'au role nouveau que joue, dans la creation litteraire, le developpement de l'imprimerie.
