In what way does filmic anthropology revitalize the study of how man models man? In answering this question, the ways in which humans learn profane and religious behavior patterns - whether they be day-to- day or ceremonial - are considered, in order to isolate, at the outset, the film-making principles and strategies which be used to study them. The way in which the fundamental characteristics of the learning process, both spatially and temporally, can be brought to the fore through the filmed description, is analyzed next. Common to all human learning processes, these characteristics serve as landmarks for the film-anthropologist in the elaboration of his descriptions. Material resulting from the creation of some twenty films, shot in French urban settings, and from the examination of anthropological films shot in a variety of different cultures, is used as evidence in this analysis. Finally, guidelines which ensure the correct film presentation of the learning process are developed, and the film-making strategies which allow the description of the essential aspects of the process are analyzed. A core of knowledge, which can be used by all disciplines interested in the study of how man models man, is thus constituted, thanks to the creation and analysis of films.

Pourquoi l'anthropologie filmique donne-t-elle un nouvel essor a l'étude de la formation de l'homme par l'homme ? Afin de répondre à cette question, sont d'abord dégagés les principes et les stratégies gouvernant l'enquête filmique relative aux apprentissages humains, que ces derniers portent sur des activités profanes ou religieuses, quotidiennes ou cérémonielles. A partir de la réalisation d'une vingtaine de films, tournes dans la société française urbaine, et de l'examen de films anthropologiques réalisés dans différentes cultures, est ensuite analysée la façon dont, grâce à la description filmique, sont mis en évidence des caractères fondamentaux des apprentissages, dans l'espace et le temps. Communs à tous les apprentissages humains, ces caractères servent de points de repère à l'anthropologue-cinéaste pour élaborer ses descriptions. Sont donc enfin dégagées les règles assurant la présentation filmique des apprentissages et analysées les mises en scène qui permettent de décrire leurs aspects essentiels. Grace à la réalisation et à l'analyse de films est donc constituée une sorte de tronc commun de connaissances utilisables dans toutes les disciplines intéressées par l'étude de la formation de l'homme par l'homme.
